Çeşme is a holiday resort with its healing hot waters, world-famous beaches, and historical beauties. Çeşme is located 94 km west of İzmir and at the very tip of the peninsula that bears its name. The sailors named this place “the small port”. Çeşme takes its name from the historical fountains built due to the natural spring waters around it. Many fountains have survived to the present day with the restorations made.
Çeşme, which was used as a base by the first Turkish admiral Çaka Bey, was also an important trade center during the Ottoman Period and was the last port used by the Ottoman Navy when embarking on an expedition every year. Today, there are cruises from Çeşme customs to the Greek islands.
Archaeological studies carried out in Çeşme in recent years have shown that there has been a settlement in the region since the Neolithic Age. As a result of the researches, the finds or remains showed that the Çeşme District was a settlement area of approximately eight thousand years.
In Çeşme, which has become one of the most popular tourist destinations in Turkey today, you can both enjoy the sea, sand, and sun and feel like you are walking in an open-air museum. You may also want to stop by Alaçatı for windsurfing, a modern sea sport.
